This Furniture Collection Looks Like A Summer Holiday

Australian beach vibes in the 70’s and 80’s were dripping with rattan, bamboo, cane and wicker. Think the colours of a Golden Gaytime, expressed through natural fibres and earthy materials.

This nostalgic aesthetic is the inspiration behind Sydney stylist and designer Sarah Ellison’s new range of furniture and homewares, the Golden collection.

Sarah Ellison needs little introduction, as one of Australia’s most established stylists, and a former senior stylist for Real Living magazine. With these skills under her belt, in recent years Sarah has applied her interiors know-how to designing furniture and homewares ranges, including this latest range, inspired by a coastal Australia of yesteryear.

Sarah explains that the inspiration for the Golden collection were ‘sparked from a strong sense of 70s and 80s nostalgia’ where Australian coastal homes were adorned with rattan, bamboo, cane, and wicker. Sarah has reimagined these materials, with ‘modern proportions and shapes.’ Nostalgia made fresh!

In addition to drawing inspiration from her own coastal childhood, Sarah was influenced by Gabriella Crespi, an Italian designer whose handcrafted objects combine natural influences and futuristic forms. This handcrafted ethos carries through in the Sarah’s collection, where ‘each piece is made entirely by hand, by artisans, not on a production line’.

This level of care and attention to detail is unsurprising, given Sarah’s interiors pedigree. She explains, ‘I guess where I vary from other designers is that I have a holistic approach to my collections, I’m often visualising the end result and how pieces will sit within a space and mix with other pieces.’ It is hard to imagine her eye-catching pieces failing to steal the show (!), but it’s clear these items could sparkle in any setting.
